Bookies think Jamie Pugh might face the boot over Talent ‘fib’

Bookmakers have rapidly revised their odds on Jamie Pugh winning Britain’s Got Talent after it emerged that he may have fibbed during his audition performance for the show.

Bookies are now said to be offering odds on the Welshman being booted off after it came to light that he has performed before an audience in a West End stage show.

Millions of viewers saw the 38-year-old tell Ant and Dec that he was “crippled with nerves” and also tell Simon Cowell that he had never sang before a large audience.

However, a report in The Sun has claimed that Jamie appeared in Star EFX Sunday Night Live, a showcase for new talent, at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London.

He sang a medley of Rod Stewart hits with a group of six others and apparently gave a solo performance of What A Wonderful World.

Bookmakers William Hill are now offering 7/1 odds on Pugh getting the boot.

Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams said in a statement: “A large part of Jamie’s charm was based on his `chronic’ stage fright.

“Once you take that away he is fairly ordinary and you can see Simon Cowell taking a dim view.”

  1. An interesting and enlightening article I read on the NYT (OP-Ed Contributor:”
Does Susan Boyle Know What’s Next?”
    By TOM BERGERON
Published: April 24, 2009) elucidates very well what the media is capable of an gives us a vague idea (what is enough) - what is in show-Biz*. Tom Bergeron is giving advice to Susan and explaining what that “love” was about. And he tells:”Run Away”. Really worthy reading.

  2. 1. Jamie didn’t tell simon anything. Jamie responded to simons question with a one word answer. Remember, his entire focus was on getting through the next 3 minutes. Also, its true that he had never sung in anything like britains got talent…there is no other show like it and the entire focus is riveted on one lone singer…mega stressful for a shy person. 2. Jamies stagefright is endearing, but if he hadn’t moved everyone to tears with his song, we could have cared less. His performance is what mattered and it was wonderful. For his own comfort I hope he tries hypnotherapy to relieve his nervousness…but the best talents always get stagefright so keep some of it. 3. In his interview he said he’s sung in public aprox 8 times over 9 years. I can see a big difference in singing in public with people you know. I’m sure jamie was petrified to do that also. Lastly, I can’t wait to hear him again. I have been wondering what he will choose. Its a wonderful world might be that choice. Jamie, if you’re reading this, let negative comments roll off like water on a ducks back. Your whole life has been preparing you for this. You can dig deep and find the place that touches our souls. Be your genuine self and you can’t go wrong…stay true to yourself.

  3. I think Jamie on the X Facter was brilliant and deserves to be where he is, the people who says that he’s a fake could they do better if so apply for an audition and lets all see it, well done Jamie you go for it , I would like to hear the full track of Bring Him Home by Jamie Pugh.

  4. Fact is, if you watch the west end video he is sweating heavily and his voice seems to be near to breaking through the whole song and the song is usually sung in a rather deep tone whereas he basically is whispering the whole song. If peopl call that a ton of experience and say that he is “comfortable” and “experienced” on stage then they have to watch the video alot more times ! :D

Good singing in Britains Got Talent and good luck facing your stage fright as its evident you had it when you were singing “What a wonderful world”

  5. But shouldn’t a person get over stage fright before they embark on a career. It is very distracting . Susan was a pleasure to watch because she sang so naturally. I didn’t feel sorry for this guy, I found him annoying, it seemed like an act to me. I have no idea in the world why he would think acting like he has stagefright would help him but I would think if a person has stagefright they would get help behind the scene’s not in front of the whole world. How far will he get if he really is that scared of perfroming in front of a crowd?

  6. You know, I don’t really care where he might have preformed before. I mean, really, how can anyone compare the two? Britain’s Got Talent is HUGE.
He has a beautiful baritone voice. He sings with passion. I would buy any CD he made in a heartbeat. I’ve purchased Paul Potts, Andrew Johnston…….I will buy Susan Boyle, when she is ready. Britain has talent!

  7. I would definately purchase a CD by Jamie Pugh. His voice is so rich and the quality is like no one I have ever heard during my 60 years on the planet, including Elvis who he did sound similar to during part of his performance.

  8. He has improved so so so much since the other performance. Wonderful world was too high wrong key for him thus he sang off key. He mentioned a voice coach…kudos to her. I’m sure he learned a lot by listening to his favorites. Song choice will be the key on the next bgt show. I want to hear more. Jamie, don’t pay any attention to some of the idiot comments here…unbelievably stupid comments. I am in oregon and you are my favorite to win.

  9. Although he may perform in front of large audiences, that does not mean that he does not suffer from stage fright.

  10. He was NOT sweating heavily on that west end stage. Obviously those who are saying that are banking on people not being smart enough to go watch that video for themselves. I watched that video and he was NOT nervous , shy or suffering any stage freight. Also, ask any mental health worker and they will tell you his actions on BGT are not even close to someone who really suffers stage freight. People suffering with that try to hide it, not focus on it. It was the only thing he had going for him but it was fake. Jamie Pugh is a fake and a liar. Also he did 1 verse of a very hard song. Why only one verse? Susan sang a whole song. I guess, if , like someone said further up in these comments, they only show the parts people respond to, then, well, there you have it. They must have only responded to his 1 little verse and Susans entire song. The Solo at the west end was horrible. He was off key beginning iwth the very first word and many times throughout. Take your blinders off.

  11. Jamie ,, I hope that you are reading this ,, last sunday I watched your performance and was and still moved by you out standing voice,
everyday since then I have watched you on youtube ,It still fills me up with tears , ,
please dont let all theses bad and unfare comments put you down,,,
you have a talent that should go far ,,
you have more than proved that wales is the land of song ,,
you make me even more proud to be welsh ,,
I wish you the very best and I know that you dream will come true,,,,,

  12. i know jamie he’s a mate and i can tell u he’s no fake i didn even know he sang on stage but to his defence he wasn singing on stage alone a few people were also on stage at the same time therefore he had never sung on his own on stage b 4 think that is what the judges meant also jamie to win he deserves it u a true gent mate best of luck really would b chuffed if u win GOOD LUCK mate!!!!!!!!!

  13. to mca above u know nowt things happen in life that change u and jamie has been through stuff i hope u never have to go through y do people (no hopers like u) av to put people down they dont even know or know nothin about

  14. All the best, Jamie the Great! That was amazing!

    Henscky

  15. Can’t fake a good voice. Don’t care if he sang in front of a crowd before or not. He did a great job when it counted and that’s what the competition is all about. Good luck Jamie!

  16. I am Ayman from Egypt does not speak English, but when I hear your voice with a sense of happiness I do not understand the meaning of your words because I do not understand English and Bhol translate Arabic words to the song, the beauty of your God is with Laanta creator

  21. i hope he does not pay attention to people calling him a liar, get too nervous and disappear from sight. i would love to hear his voice in a song designed for him, for his range. not like in the west end performance.

  22. i just read mca. hmmmmm. look again very closely at the first few notes he squeaked out and then how he missed his high notes. and how often he moves his mouth in an odd way. i see a very nervous man. paul potts did not sing that much the first time around either. jamie pugh, if you are reading these comments, please put on the blinders mca is asking everyone else to take off. yours is a voice i would like to hear again. try not to focus on the negative that is coming out now in the news. i believe you misunderstood simon’s question because it was your first time on the stage alone, not with your group. i believe it was the stage fright that caused you to have difficulty focusing on any questions and that you only wanted to sing just enough to get through to the next round, knowing that you would find it a little easier to face the public the next time. i admire your voice more than your bravery and hope we will hear it again. many overcome stage fright but not that many have such a pure clear baritone sound. keep your chin up!

  23. i meant he missed his notes in the west end performance, by the way. his bgt performance was beautiful.

  24. i wrote the above comments and then treated myself to the hd youtube video. i expect i will be doing that several times a day for the next week. i noticed something in his interview before bgt….. and here is what i believe. i think in that interview he mentioned his west end performance…… listen to his words carefully…… and i think bgt cut it because it sells better if the public thinks his first try at stardom was with them. if he were a fake, i think his bgt song would have been longer, not short. i think between the west end and bgt he got some training, coaching and advice and good for him. it made all the difference. why would a fake sing the west end song in public. it was meant for a tenor. why would he risk such an important opportunity on the wrong song for his voice. i wish people’s iq would be posted next to their comments, as well as next to any columnist’s name, so that jamie pugh can get clear in his mind why some of this is happening to him. i don’t think that highly of simon usually, he is too rude at times, but in this case i hope he is in contact with jamie to help deflect most of the negative comments out there. simon is not bgt, he works for them, otherwise he would have never made that gesture at the beginning of shaheed’s second song. bgt is trying to sell itself, not help start new careers. simon can put jamie pugh on the map. let’s hope he does.

  25. texas10 you take the words right outta my mouth. I have to have a daily dose of his singing
becos the sound just moves and inspires me. I just cannot wait for next round.

  26. i just watched the hd version again and got yet another impression from everything that was said up to the point jamie pugh sings at bgt. if it is legal to print that a man is a liar, without a fair trial, then i surely can say that something is fishy. i suspect that bgt specifically told jamie to NOT MENTION his west end performance. i originally thought he misunderstood simon’s question and answered in a way that makes some people believe they have been swindled out of their cinderella ending. i am now even more convinced that in his waiting room interview he mentioned the disastrous west end performance and that he was advised to say nothing about it. people people people—– put down your weapons some of you and take the police detective approach. let the evidence lead you to the correct conclusion. now that you know about the west end, that he sang there, and that it went REALLY badly, listen again to the bgt interview. everything he says fits in with the idea that he is again trying to make it into show business. again, not the first time. to simon he says he is going to try and sing for the lovely audience. people say they are going to try when they have done something before and did not suceed. he tells amanda he hopes he can sing a song from les mis. he hopes he can. he hopes it because in the west he went for it, by singing alone and he missed it by quite a bit. i can imagine the group practices prior, how the other guys told him he had the voice to carry off the solo but when he was there, in the pressure of the moment, he failed. and later, at bgt, he hoped he would not fail again. it is obvious that the bgt interview is only there in part, not the whole of it. to those who think jamie pugh set them up, let’s think a minute. now, how did he do it again? help me understand you. did he on purpose mess up the west end and then cover it up? was it all a master plan? maybe i don’t know the bgt rules. did the west end thing mean he was ineligible to perform for bgt? he was not paid, so no. the guy’s voice is fantastic. did he need the stage fright schtick to help him win? stop calling him names and explain yourselves a little better.

  27. I wish Jamie had let his talent (and he has bags of it) stand on its own and had told the truth about his on-stage experience. Paul Potts was as insecure as they come. We’ve learned so much about him since that initial audition in Cardiff. Back then, prior to coming on stage, Paul spoke about his insecurity, but in a direct, understated way. Jamie, on the other hand, presses the point about “crippling stage fright” with unblinking stares at the audience and doleful eyes. Now that we know he lied about never having performed in front of an audience, it makes all the drama seem just that — an act.

  28. What a fantastic talent, he has a beautiful voice which is a change from the fabricated, talentless rubbish which abuses our ears on a weekly basis, These so called stars are constantly falling out of nightclubs in drunken states & filling the pages of these so called newspapers, Jamie should be helped to improve his singing & reach his full potential.
However it is typical of the gutter press of this country to build up someone & then try to dig up dirt & hound them through their cheap lie ridden pages.
Take no notice Jamie, sing from your heart & do us Welsh proud.

  29. Jamie is the best!

  30. This is great.. Well Done Mr Jamie Pugh, have you ever heard the saying there is no such thing as bad publicity.
But there`s one thing you cant take from this man and that’s his voice and his charisma.

All I can say is I wish you all the luck in the world
The Internet continues to revolutionize the music industry and the creation of music networks has helped musicians to promote their bands, sell their music, find band members, buy and sell musical instruments, chat to fellow musicians in the forums just like this, post photos, their music, videos and so much more.
So no matter what happens Jamie Pugh has made his statement and brand named himself world wide.
And that alone is an achievement in its self.

  31. Oh my Texas…I love how you just add all these things you “think” happened as though they are fact. LOL…Here are facts for you….Jamie said”’I suffer terrible stage freight” Here is another one…Simon asks “Have you ever done this before, sang in front of a live audience? The answer was “NO”…..There is also the fact of a video of him singing on stage at a west end theatre…..and..It was a horrible bit of singing he did on that stage…He was not crippled with stage freight he was simply a BAD singer who can’t carry a note to get through an entire song. He did sing solo on that stage and to those who say he didn’t you are insane…He was joined the last fe wseconds by the other guys but he did sing solo for most of that song. Jamie will be cut and not make it through…

Also for the sake of being fair. If I am wrong and you are right why would anyone who IS crippled with stage freight think they can have a career in performing live on stage? I think his whole plan was to play act the stage freight and then come back at Semis to have it all be surprisingly gone and we would all be so shocked that this wonderful person could accomplish such a thing…Yeah right…You go right on believing that but anyone with 2 ounces of brain knows better.

  32. I found your post very enlightening. thanks very much!
